In 1957
the Ternopil State Medical Institute was founded.
In 1996
the Institute was attested by the state inspection of educational institutions
and recieved the highest
IV-th degree, the licence providing 400 students
to be trained at the Medical faculty and 120 students - at the
Nurses' Training faculty. The status of the
Medical was awarded to the institute.

In 1992
the Academy was named after I.Y.Gorbachevsky, a famous scientist born in
Ternopil region, a member of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, a member
of the T.Shevchenko Scientific Society.
Training is provided by three faculties:
the medical faculty;
the nursies' training faculty;
the post-graduated training faculty

| At present the academy numbers 36 departments. Above 2,000 students, 500 interns and 600 learners of the Refresh Courses study here. Among 326 teachers' stuff there are 69 ( 21,1 per cent ) of Doctors of Sciences and 222 ( 68,0 per cent ) of Candidates of Sciences. |

| The teaching staff includs: 1corresponding member of theAcademy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, 2 honoured workers of the higher school, 5 honoured workers of science and technology of Ukraine, 1 honoured inventor of Ukraine. |
| Clinical department
are located in three cities, five regionals, one district hospitals as
well as in different dispensaries of Ternopil.
The internship department branch is functioning on the basis of various medical institutions in Rivne city. All the departments of the academy are equipped with modern training, diagnostic and therapeutic apparatuses and different visual aids as well. We have got many educational films, a great deal af which is made in our laboratories. The institutie possesses 8 display class-rooms and above 50 computers. |
